Back in 2023, Ram ran a pretty stupid ad for its forthcoming electric truck during the Super Bowl, and I made fun of it for advertising a product that was listed as "Coming Late 2024." In other words, nearly two years later! Even movie teasers don't run that far in advance. Hell, that ad came out so long ago that I reference delays in the release of the Cybertruck, which has since actually hit the streets to near-universal mockery and disdain.
But if you thought a lead time of that length was bad, it turns out... that truck isn't coming out at all. Per The Verge, the Ram 1500 REV was initially supposed to be out in the first half of 2024... then late 2024... then 2026. And now it's just been outright canceled. Sorry, fellas. On the bright side, if you want people to see your vehicle and think of a flaccid penis, there's always the Cybertruck.
I don't want to take TOO big of a lap here, because there are (as The Verge mentions in that piece) a lot of reasons why electric trucks have been a losing segment and some of them (like having a lunatic far-right government that never met a green initiative it didn't want to trash on principle) are pretty fucking bad. But this was always a weird segment of the market, and it turns out that ads comparing your potential electric truck to Viagra didn't do anything to change that!
